Uttar Pradesh Elections
The Legislative Assembly elections were held in Uttar Pradesh from Feb 10th March to 7th 2022 in seven phases to elect all the 403 members for the 18th UP election
The tenure of the UP
elections ended on 14th May 2022. And the previous elections were held in
February-March 2017, after which Bhartiya Janata Party formed the state
government, with Yogi Adityanath becoming the Chief Minister.
Parties
and alliances –
During the month of
September, the National Democratic Party (NDA) confirmed that there was an
alliance between BJP, AD(S), and the NISHAD Party. In August, NDA held talks
with parties like JD(U), Ham(S), and others, but there was a dispute during the
seat-sharing, so they fell apart.
Rashtriya Lok Dal was the
very first party that joined an alliance with the Samajwadi Party, but later,
Akhilesh Yadav announced that they were only willing to partner up with
regional parties only, and not the national parties.
Aam Aadmi Party(AAP)
announced that it would compete for all the 403 seats in the election. AAP
started an alliance discussion with Samajwadi Party, but that did not succeed.
Shiv Sena announced that
they would compete for all the 403 seats, but later the number was reduced to
50-100 seats.
Manifestos
- In order to win the elections, the parties released
many manifestos, some of them are
NDA- Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PMKSN)
scheme for landless farmers Scotty for females and working women.
Free UPSC and IAS
coaching for women.
At least 1 job in each
household
UPA
- All farmers’
debts will be waivered off. Electricity bills shall be reduced by half.
Every girl in 10th and
12th grade will be given a smartphone, and every woman enrolled in a graduate
program will be given an electric scooter
The fees for all
examination forms will be waived off and travel by bus and train would be made
free. In the basic education sector, the shortage of one lakh head teachers
will be met.
SP- MSP for all crops.All farmers will be
debt-free by 2025.Mazdoor power line will be launched for migrant
laborers.Urban employment guarantee act along lines of MGNREGS to boost jobs. Free
WIFI zones in all villages and cities.
Even after all these
promises were made by different parties, the people of Uttar Pradesh trusted
the BJP government, and Yogi Adityanath returned as the Chief Minister of the
state for the 2nd time. This was for the first time in almost 37 years when the
state voted back a ruling party.
